In the last few weeks I have been delighted to hear from people who have seen the blog on Facebook or my website. Even though I get a few ’likes’ now and then, it is so good to heard from people personally.
Ove (Oh-vee) emailed after the ‘Spoonerism’ blog with some information about ‘Tom Swifties’. I had never heard of them before. Wikipedia revealed that they are funny sentences with a form of pun at the end. Examples given were: “I have no flowers,” said Tom lackadaisically “I love hot dogs,” said Tom with relish.
Apparently Tom Swifties can easily be converted to limericks and Ove sent me an example.
Tom Swift, he was miffed. Oh, and how,
And admits having fits even NOW.
“Don’t lend me more yarn—
I can’t mend worth a darn,
But won’t quit,” he said, knitting his brow.
She also sent one about ’senior moments’ that many of us suffer!
An elderly man in Missouri
Said, “Age will get old in a hurry.
Each year we encumber
Is only a number
Of wrinkles, regrets, and where WERE we?”
Ove is on Facebook as Ove Ofteness.
